Davao City, is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the island of Mindanao and the largest city in the Philippines in terms of land area. It is the third-most populous city in the country outside Manila.
Davao City is the center of trade, commerce, and industry hub of Mindanao and the regional center of Davao region. Davao is where Mount Apo is located, the highest mountain in the Philippines. The city is also known as the “Durian Capital of the Philippines”.
Davao City is one of my favourite destination in the Philippines. This is because of its cleanliness, orderliness ( i.e. strict implementation of law), cheap food and a lot things/activities you can do and enjoy while you stay in the city. Here are the suggested activities to enjoy your stay :
1. Eat your Dinner at Roxas Night Market
Feast your taste buds with succulent and delicious grilled squid, salmon belly, barbecued pork or chicken intestine. Drink fresh fruit juice and shake. A must-try “durian” shake. Price of food ranges from 50 to 150 pesos.
Aside from food trip, you can also buy locally made products such as “malong” (Filipino tube skirt), “sarong”, tubao and tinalak or enjoy a relaxing chair massage in Roxas Night Market.
2. Watch Animal Show at the Crocodile Park
Watch the spectacular animal show at the Davao Crocodile Park. The park is located at the Riverfront Corporate City, Diversion Road, Maa, Davao City. Regular Shows Schedule: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 4:00 PM includes Save our Species, Crocodile Feeding, Crocodile Dancing and Wildlife Encounter Interactive Show. Entrance Fee is PhP 350 but free entrance for children below 2 years old.
Tourists of all ages will surely enjoy the show, featuring none other than impressive “Orange” the Orangutan. Get to know more about the different habitat and know how they interact with each others and a chance to show how much you care for the Mother Nature by learning how to build enduring relationship with the wildlife.
3. Try the crocodile burger at the Riverwalk Restaurant
After the animal show, take your “merienda” (snacks) at the Riverwalk Restaurant. Try their delicious crocodile burger.
4. Watch the Fire Dance and Cultural Show at Tribu K Mindanawan
Watch the amazing fire dance show at the Tribu K Mindanawan every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The show starts at 5:45 pm. Afterwards, the fire dancers performed cultural show at the stage of the Riverwalk Restaurant.
5. Visit the Philippine Eagle Foundation
The Philippine Eagle Foundation does not only have Philippine Eagles to show but there are a number of endemic and rare birds, mammals and reptiles as well. Also there are numerous trees and plants within the area, and others are known to be endemic
A souvenir shop is located near the entrance where tourists can buy Philippine Eagle souvenir items. The income from the items sold will help fund the Foundation’s research, conservation, and education programs.
6. Take a tour at the Malagos Garden Resort
After your visit in the Philippine Eagle Foundation, the next stop is the Malagos Garden Resort, which is 15 to 20 minutes away from the foundation. The resort entrance fee is PhP 650 which includes day tour and buffet lunch. The day tour includes access to Bird Feeding Dome, Petting Zoo, Chocolate Museum, Mindanao Contemporary Art Gallery, Butterfly Dome and Museo de Mariposa.
Be entertained by the Malagos Folk Dancers while enjoying your meal at the Corral Pavilion. They served a variety of Filipino dishes and dessert. They also served lemonade, iced tea, coffee, and hot tea.
The Malagos Garden Resort is also known for having the first chocolate museum in the Philippines. Also, the Malagos chocolate received several international and local awards. Recently it receives five (5) awards from the UK Chocolate Academy.
The museum also offers basic chocolate making course for only PhP450 per session.
Watch also the bird show every Sunday at 10 am and Animal House Show every Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. The Malagos Garden Resort have available rooms if you opted to stay overnight.
7. Enjoy nature at Eden’s Nature Park and Resort
Eden’s Nature Park and Resort is located in Brgy. Eden, Toril, Davao City. It is estimated 45 minutes to 55 minutes away from the city proper. The day tour package includes buffet lunch or plated snacks. Buffet lunch including entrance fee is PhP 750 or PhP 450 for plated snack.
Guided Shuttle Tour starts at 8:45 to 10:45 in the morning and 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. Enjoy the nature and fresh air during the tour. Get ready with your camera and have selfie or group picture at the Amphitheater & Flower Garden, Tinubdan and Lola’s Garden.
8. Try Sky Adventure Rides at Eden’s Nature Park and Resort
Aside from enjoying the nature and fresh air. Try the sky adventure rides
- Skyrider – A 200 meter long zipline wherein one may glide atop a canopy of trees while enjoying the a spectacular view of Davao City and the Gulf. PhP 150 rate per person.
- Skycycle – Pedal your way through the sky with Skycycle and feel the adrenaline rush as you bike on a cable 60 ft high with a distance of 200 meters. PhP 200 rate per person
- Skyswing – Eden’s newest attraction where riders will be lifted up to 95 feet inti the air and then suddenly dropped to swing back and forth. PhP 300 for solo, PhP 400 for combo.
- Skywheel – another one of a kind feature where riders can walk inside the wheel while it’s up to 60 feet under. PhP 200 rate per person.
9. Dine in at the Jack’s Ridge
Jack’s Ridge is located at the Shrine Hills Road, Talomo Davao City. It was built to offer a completely new experience to dinners, and its not over yet, more development are under way to make it the premier dining resort in Davao City.
Jack Ridge is overlooking the City of Davao. There are more than five (5) restaurants to choose from. Food are delicious and affordable. Make sure you try it before you end your vacation.
10. Chill out at the Island of Samal
Chema’s by the Sea is located at the island of Samal. It is 20 minutes ride from Davao City. What I love about the place is its serenity and exclusivity, They have a day tour starts at 7:00 am till 4:00 pm.

- Umbrella Hut is P500 good for 7 person, more than 7 plus P50/person more than 10 you have to get another Hut
Note: Food and drinks are not allowed. They have a restaurant that served meals, drinks and snacks. Proper swimming attire is required.
